Asher’s First Day of School

Asher started first grade on Monday. He goes to Room 10 with Mrs. DiGenaro. Sending him off on the first day was actually nice compared with Kindergarten. Stefanie wasn’t crying and Asher was excited to see his friends. When we had to get going, no problem. By next year I imagine I will regret his independence since he will probably try shoving us out the door. In the meantime, I am enjoying this in between stage where he likes to have us around but isn’t traumatized when we aren’t.

First Day of Soccer

Today was the first day of soccer for Asher and Ella. So, that also means picture day. Asher and Ella both enjoyed their games a ton. Asher even tried goalie for a while and blocked three shots. Ella’s games were action packed because they don’t have goalies, so they score every 3 minutes.

I’d classify Ella as a “hoverer.” She likes to be near the action, but doesn’t get into it. I don’t think she is afraid, but just doesn’t feel compelled to go after the ball. She seems more pleasantly surprised when the ball ends up at her feet and she gets to kick it.

Home Grown Garden

We worked on a vegetable garden this year. Stef and I battled over what should be grown. I wanted beets to make a soup, but she planted honeydew suspiciously close. Soon all the beets were lost beneath a sea of melon vines.

We eventually picked our first melon from our garden this week. Ella was very excited to try it. It tasted great, but was smaller than store bought. We let some go too long thinking they were not big enough to be ready yet. Those ones sucked. But when they were picked well, nothing is as good as home grown.
